Isaiah 40:6-11 – Telling It From the Mountains
If we believe this passage is the Word of God, then what should be different about our lives?
1) I hope it is obvious. We will follow the charge to the prophet and join the happy chorus of those announcing the coming of the Messiah. We will climb to the top of the mountain to increase the range of our message. We will shout it out so more people can hear it. We will see this as the most important priority we have. Everything else pales in comparison. Why? Because it will fade away. It will soon droop, wither, shrivel up, and fall off. We ourselves will one day go the way of the grass and the flowers and the Christmas tree. Those around us will one day say, “You know, they have seen better days. It’s about time we toss them.” Right?
We are nothing compared to this message. Nothing is anything compared to this message. Everything else will just burn up when God blows on it. But the message of the Messiah coming to earth, now that’s good news! That bears declaring, writing, phoning, emailing, texting, tweeting. That is the news of the day, this day and every day. Amen?
